    Summary Information:
The Albury 'Education' Shared Responsibility Agreement (SRA) is an agreement between the Albury Indigenous community and the New South Wales and Commonwealth governments. The community entered into the SRA, which provides for the establishment of an Indigenous Resource Centre at the Hume Public School, in order to support children through the closer involvement of their parents, carers and elders in their education.

Shared Responsibility Agreements are agreements between governments and Indigenous communities to provide discretionary funding in return for community obligations. The new arrangements developed from an initiative of the Council of Australian Governments and replace the previous ATSIC system of funding. For more information see 'Shared Responsibility Agreement' below.
    Detailed Information:

    Purpose

The Albury 'Education' SRA will establish an Indigenous Resource Centre at the Hume Public School, aimed at helping Indigenous children to stay at school. The Resource Centre will provide support services including literacy and numeracy tutoring, health information sessions and a daily breakfast program. It will also help build links with the wider school community through 'activities showcasing Indigenous culture'.

    Shared Responsibilities

The local community will assist in the refurbishment of an existing facility to house the new centre, including the construction of an outdoor meeting area. The community has also agreed to become more active in the school community through membership of the Parents and Citizens Committee, to make use of the Indigenous Resource Centre and to take part in its activities. Community members will develop a roster for delivery of the breakfast program, will attend information sessions run by NSW Community Health, and will meet with school staff at the centre to discuss student issues. They will also ensure children attend ear and eye testing programs. Community elders will mentor children and parents at the school.

The Commonwealth Government will provide funding for the refurbishment of the Resource Centre facility.

The New South Wales Government will provide a project manager to oversee the refurbishment, and will provide training for community volunteers to act as literacy and numeracy tutors.

NSW Community Health will provide information sessions at the Resource Centre for parents about eye and ear health problems that affect children.

Hume Public School will run a daily breakfast program from the Centre.
