Summary Information:
BHP Billiton is the world's largest diversified resources company. It was formed as a result of a merger between the Australian company BHP and the British company Billiton in June 2001. The company employs approximately 35,000 people in the context of 100 mining and exploration operations throughout 20 countries. These operations deal with a wide range of resources including aluminium, energy coal and metallurgical coal, copper, ferro-alloys, iron ore and titanium minerals, oil, gas, liquefied natural gas, nickel, diamonds and silver.

While BHP Billiton Ltd (formerly BHP Ltd) and BHP Billiton Plc (formerly Billiton Plc) continue to exist as two separate companies, they nevertheless operate on a combined basis as BHP Billiton. The headquarters of the BHP Billiton Group is in Melbourne, Victoria.
