Bunbury is the regional centre of the South West with an area of approximately 61 square kilometers and is located 185 kilometers south of Western Australia's capital city, Perth. The city is uniquely located on a peninsula surrounded by water, the Indian Ocean, the lower Leschenault Inlet and Koombana Bay. The population of the city is approximately 30,000 with the city population forecast to be 34,000 by the year 2011.
The region has diverse cultural features reflecting both its history of European settlement and the heritage of the Aboriginal people in the region.
