Summary Information:
The Cape York Policy Unit (CYSU) is the Queenland Government's 'response to the Cape York Justice Study Meeting Challenges, Making Choices. [It] outlines an enhanced role and new accountabilities for the Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Policy (DATSIP). The establishment of the Cape York Strategy Unit within DATSIP provides a way for Cape York Peninsula communities to directly negotiate with government to redirect resources to areas of greatest need.

The Cape York Strategy Unit working closely with Indigenous partners, Government Champions and individual Peninsula communities will support and facilitate the process of Negotiation Tables. These are designed to meet the dominant and central causes of limited outcomes in communities, particularly through 'Whole- of-Government' responses' (DATSIP, accessed 24 May 2007).
