| The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women's Task Force on Violence was formed in December 1998 at the request of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women by the Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Policy. The Task Force was made up of 50 members representing communities throughout Queensland. The Task Force investigated violence against women, children and families in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and consulted with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people all over Queensland, in towns, cities, remote settlements and islands. The Report of the Task Force, which was tabled in Queensland Parliament on the 2 December 1999, made 123 recommendations on ways to reduce violence in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and ways to address underlying social, spiritual and economic disadvantage. |
