Summary Information:
The Australian Customs Service (ACS) works with other government and international agencies to ensure Australia's border security through the detection and deterrence of unlawful goods and persons. It is a national organisation which employs approximately 4,800 staff in Australia and overseas. The central office is located in Canberra. Resources and equipment used include a fleet of ocean-going vessels and aerial surveillance aircraft. The interception of drugs and illegal firearms is a high priority of the ACS.
