The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Council was established in 1996. It includes representation from the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation, the Department of Health and Aged Care (Commonwealth), the Australian Health Minister' Advisory Council, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission, the Torres Strait Regional Authority and the National Health and Medical research Council.
The Council advises the Minister for Health and Aged Care (Commonwealth) on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health policy and planning and monitors the national implementation of agreements relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health issues. |
