The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare is a statutory authority of the Commonwealth Government, formed in 1987. The Institute is governed by a Board that is accountable to Parliament. It is Australia's national agency for health and welfare statistics and information. Its mission is to improve the health and well-being of Australians and to inform community discussion and decision-making through national leadership in developing and providing health and welfare statistics and information.
