The Orange Statement of Commitment to Aboriginal Services and Development is a public commitment by Orange City Council and members of the Orange Aboriginal community to work together to improve Aboriginal services and development. According to Jamie Newman, of the Council's Aboriginal Consultative Forum, the statement sets short and long term goals for employment, education, housing and social issues. On the occasion of the formal making of the Statement on 30 November 2005, Newman said: 'We've come a long way, we need people to acknowledge that the statement of commitment is about acknowledging the Aboriginal community of Orange, that we are a part of this community, we want to be a part of this community, and I think this will be the catalyst for change'.
