    Summary Information:
The Goldfields Pastoral Access Principles were agreed and signed by the Pastoralists and Graziers Association and the Goldfields Land and Sea Council. The Principles outline a set of guidelines for negotiating harmonious access to pastoral leases in the Goldfields by Aboriginal people and for good neighbourly relations between Pastoralists and Traditional Owners.
    Detailed Information:
The agreement preamble acknowledges the importance of coexistence, noting that Pastoralists and Aboriginal people share the same land. It confirms:
    - The importance to Aboriginal people of access to traditional lands, including lands that are subject to pastoral leasehold; and
    - The importance to Pastoralists of being able to use and enjoy their pastoral leases in a secure and efficient manner.

The 14 principles address the rights of both groups in a fair and equitable way, covering issues such as the rights of Pastoralists to graze commercial livestock, protection of Aboriginal sites of significance, recognition of the traditional responsibilities of Aboriginal people to look after country, and acknowledging the need for orderly processes for resolving access disputes. The agreement notes the extensive goodwill that already exists between the parties and the need for this to continue in an environment of mutual respect and open communication.

It is the first time in Australia that an agreement of this nature has been concluded for an entire region the size of the Goldfields.
