Elliot McNamara was a member of the Gawler Ranges Native Title Claim Group. Native Title was successfully granted to the Gawler Ranges people on 19 December 2011. All members of the claim group identified either as members of the Barngarla or the Kokatha Peoples.

Elliot McNamara, together with Barry Croft, Lorraine Dare, and Howard Richards, acted for and on behalf of the Barngarla People as signatories to indigenous land use agreements.
