The agreement between the New South Wales Minister for Health, the Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Council of New South Wales (AH&MRC), the Commonwealth Minister for Health and Ageing and the Chairperson of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC) was signed in 2002. The agreement complements the New South Wales Aboriginal Health Partnership Agreement and is consistent with various other strategic reports and strategies. | ||
Detailed Information: | ||
The agreement provides for: - increased health-related resources for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples; - joint planning and reporting between the Commonwealth Government and the New South Wales Government in order to inform health policies and decisions; - improved access to health services; - improved collection and evaluation of health data; - clarification of the roles and responsibilities of the States/Territories, ATSIC and Aboriginal community controlled health services; - collaboration between various sectors (including 'agriculture, local government, land, animal husbandry, socio-political, cultural, food, industry, education, communications and community infrastructure') to improve health care; and - reporting requirements. |
